Pompeii is one of the most famous and visited archeological sites in Italy, protected by UNESCO world heritage site. It was completely buried by the enormous eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The ash covering the town protected the buildings against the passage of time. The first excavations were in the 18th century, in 250 years about 75% of the town has been dug out. The tour round the site lasts anout 2 hours.
The Amalfi Coast is one of the most scenic’s drives in Europe, protected by the UNESCO world heritage site. Visit the glamorous village of Positano and enjoy the historical centre of Amalfi with the beautiful cathedral dedicated to St.Andrew. Located up to the hill at about 300 m on the sea level the panoramic village of Ravello with beautiful gardens and views; Villa Rufolo where Wagner got the inspiration to compose “Parsifal”, his last composition.
Sorrento, so many definitions have been ascribed to this locality, one of the best-known International tourist resort. Sorrento, hometown of the poet Torquato Tasso, who was born here in 1544; Sorrento: land of colours; land of the Mermaids; the city of the orange and lemon groves, ect. Each one of these definitions contains the truth because Sorrento is indeed a pretty little town where kindness and hospitality are a combination that is handed down from one generation to the next. Sorrento, not to be rhetorical, is indeed the land of colours: brilliant or delicate hues depending on the change of the season. If you just spend a moment to observe how emotional a sunset can be when you gaze in the direction of Punta del Capo, of Ischia or Procida islands, the outlines of which can be seen clearly, you will be amazed by the variety of colours and the beauty of the landscape.
Seen from the sea, Positano is set in a dramatic vertical panorama of colors; the green of the Monti Lattari, the white, pink and yellow of the Mediterranean houses, the silvery grey of its pepple beaches and the blue of the sea. The ancient Romans built a number of sumptuous villas on the coast of Positano, that nowadays are lived by the celebrities and the famous. Also famous for its shopping, boutiques and tiny pedestrians streets that lead to the beachfront.
Herculaneum was destroyed, like Pompeii, by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Herculaneum began life as a fishing village, but become a fashionable residential resort for rich romans by the 1st century BC. The village was buried by boiling mud which solidificated into an enormous block in tufa above which during the middle ages an other village was built. The ruins are very well preserved and because of the hot mud in some villas it is possible to admire the carbonised furnitures in wood of 2000 years ago.
The island of Capri is a place of legend, once the playground of the Roman Emperors and now a playground for the rich and famous. The island is divided in two towns Capri Town where the beautiful Augustus Gardens are located and plenty of chic and expensieve shops, coffees and restaurants. Uphill Anacapri, where a chairlift goes up to the head-spinning heights of mount Solaro and where the beautiful villa San Michel is located, the villa of Dr Axel Munthe, with a fantastic garden! The beautiful Blue Cave ”Grotta Azzurra”is part of Anacapri. The island is surrounded by gorgeous cliffs bound scenery, hillsides, villas and tiny lanes draped in bougainvillea and honeysuckle. A real Paradise!
