History and useful information

Avellino is the capital of the province which was once called Irpinia. Places of interest include the cathedral, clock tower and Irpinian museum.  Nearby one can visit the 13^th century Sanctuary of Montevergine, which is still visited by numerous pilgrims.  The surrounding countryside produces some of the best Campania wines, and wine/food tasting excursions can be arranged.

It is difficult to combine a visit to Avellino with other places of interest.
