Castellammare di Stabia, as it is known today, was destroyed together with Pompeii and Herculaneum by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, and was the place where Pliny the older died. The ruins of two Roman villas are open to the public. The visit can be combined with Pompei, Herculaneum, Naples, Oplontis and Boscoreale.
